Essay knowledge test question

An essay question is an open-ended question where learners enter their answers in a text field. This type of question is particularly suitable for assessing complex relationships or the actual understanding of learning content. The answers must then be assessed by the author, which enables an individual and in-depth evaluation. For practice purposes, self-assessment by the learners can also be performed.

In the Wizard for knowledge test questions, select the question type Essay. During editing, enter a Title and set the Language.

2

Under the Question tab, you can select a design template for creating a question or start with a blank page.

3

Arrange the desired elements such as the question and answer area by drag-and-drop. Add comments for correct and incorrect answers. Optionally, you can add an information text, insert a background picture, or customize the layout by editing HTML/CSS.

Switch to the Answers tab and define the following:

  • Evaluation method: Specify who should perform the assessment. The evaluation can be carried out either by an author or by the learner themselves. With self-assessment, the learner can assign points and optionally provide a reason for the evaluation.
  • Evaluation instructions: Provide instructions that should be considered during the assessment. These can, for example, contain a list of points that an optimal answer should include.
